Malaga CF 5 (Luis Alberto 53', Juanmi 63', 87', Perez 49', 18' own goal. Adelaide United 1 (Djite 58')

Adelaide United tonight played the first soccer match at the new Adelaide Oval that seen Spanish La Liga giants Malaga CF comfortably defeat them 5-1. Adelaide United coach Josep Gombau was happy with the effort from his team however disappointed that he didn’t have a full squad on the field. "I think that the result is honest and reflects what happened today here on the field, Gombau explained.

"Today we missed four or five players that normally play in our first eleven like Fabio, Maronne, Cassio, Awer Mabil and when you have this its difficult for us when you miss these players.

The level is higher but only just, its very difficult to be competitive I can not say nothing to any player because everyone put in the effort but in the end we are playing with kids and these kids did the best that they can, but to play this competitive game we need men”, said Adelaide United coach. Both teams started slowly and a little rusty this being Malaga's first pre season match along with Adelaide United. Early on Eugene Galekovic was extremely lucky not to have had his mistake converted to a goal by Roque Santo Cruz. It wasn't until the 18th minute when Adelaide suffered an own goal from Osama Malik when his misdirected header found its way into the back of the net. At the 24th minute mark, United's Sanchez scored a goal but unfortunately Boogaard was judged offside after he put a volley past the Malaga FC keeper Kameni. The second half Malaga CF made 9 substitutions and it didn't take long to unsettle Adelaides defence when Pablo Perez fired a bullet past Galekovic and the score was now 2-0 after 49minutes. Malaga CF's debutant Louis Alberto who is currently on loan from Liverpool after they signed him for £6.8 million last season, scored in the 53rd minute to make the score 3-0 when he put a free kick into the back of the net from just past the yard box, his class was on show for the 23,254 crowd. Bruce Djite later scored from a left foot rocket to give Adelaide their first goal at the 58th minute. Malaga CF's dominance continued when in the 63rd minute Juanmi made it 4-1 after a classy pass to the far post from Pablo Perez. Juanmi scores again in the 87th to make the score 5-1. 23,254 crowd at Adelaide Oval.
