Reds into Inaugural FFA Cup Final at Home

REDS INTO INAUGURAL FFA CUP FINAL AT HOME Adelaide United 3 (Cirio 40', 88' Mabil '45) Central Coast 2 (Simon 48', Rose '92) Attendance 4,548 Adelaide United booked their place in the Westfield FFA Cup Final as they pushed aside Central Coast Mariners 3-2 at Coopers Stadium. Adelaide looked in control from the start of match and many times threatened to score early in the game. Despite this ascendency it wasn't until Cirio scored from a fantastic cross in the 40th minute. The goal caused a lot of frustration Mariners captain John Hutchinson who looked frustrated - throwing his hands in the air - and looking towards the bench shortly after the goal. In the 45th minute Awer Mabil converted a shot across the keeper Liam Reddy. This was the exact same spot he had missed from earlier in the week against Sydney FC. Adelaide had incredible 65 per cent possession and nine shots to one, finishing the first half 2-0 up. After Adelaide's first half domination, the Mariners started their comeback in perfect fashion, Matt Simon scoring in the 48th minute. Adelaide then settled and appeared to grab control of the game, again thanks to central defender Osama Malik. Just after the 60th minute Adelaide made two changes with Fabio Ferreira and Dylan McGowan coming on to replace James Jeggo and Pablo Sanchez respectively. The game steadied in the second half until Awer Mabil's shot was blocked by Reddy, Sergio Cirio then pounced on the keepers rebound and scored Adelaide's third goal. Josh Rose scored a late goal in stoppage time but it was Adelaide's night. They now qualify for the Westfield FFA Cup Final against Perth Glory on December 16 at Coopers Stadium.
