Sixers grab big scalp

Adelaide 36ers 90 (Gibson 17, Wilson 16, Motum 17, Petrie 17) Cairns Taipans 86 (Craig 28, Tragardh 18, Wilbekin 11) Crowd: 4,798 at Adelaide Arena The Adelaide 36ers defeated Cairns Taipans by four points at Adelaide Arena. The 36ers have won their past two from three games which is pleasing for coach Joey Wright. "Tonight is a good example of how we can play and still win a basketball game against one of the better teams in the league," Wright explains. "When you get guys stepping up and playing defence It's going to make a difference. The 36ers slumped to seven straight defeats before their last 2 from 3 victories and Wright put that down to a disruptive start. "It was a very disruptive pre-season with a lot of individuals coming together," Wright continues "We didn't have a common goal, we just didn't, as much as we've got the same uniform on, we just didn't have a common goal. "Injuries disrupted that a little further and we got off to a bad start and lost a lot of confidence this should be some confidence building for us. The turnaround has largely been due to the form of Jamar Wilson. Wilson scored 22 points, pulled down 6 rebounds and dished out 6 assists in the four point win. "I feel real comfortable and real confident playing for Joey (Wright)," Wilson says. "I think he finds a way for everyone to use their potential to the max and I'm enjoying myself. The Sixers got out of the blocks early on the back of a 13pt first quarter from Anthony Petrie, taking a 10pt lead into the first break. The 3rd place Taipans responded well in the second and the teams were locked away at half time. The home side always seemed to have the game under their control with a good spread of scorers. Captain Adam Gibson had another solid game with 17pts and 9 assists, Brock Motum with 17pts and 10 rebounds and Petrie and Jamar Wilson finished with 16pts a piece. The Sixers now look to next Saturday night when they play Townsville Crocodiles at home.
