Robinson produces dashing drive

Trainer-driver Anthony Robinson deflected the praise to three-year-old filly Bee A Lassie following her win in the Ubet Trotters Handicap final (2230m) but there is no doubt his dashing drive helped pave the way to victory. “She is an improving filly,” Robinson said. “She does things right and is improving with racing. “When I took over her training I thought she might lack a bit of stamina but tonight’s win shows she is certainly getting better.” Bee A Lassie, a $13.60 chance, came off 10 metres to lead throughout in the Ubet Trotters Handicap to beat Joekenn ($7) which had come off 50 metres by four and a half metres with McWhipped ($28.80) 23 metres away third. Pocketfullofcash was the $2 favourite despite coming off 60 metres, but due to Robinson’s dashing drive, he was never able to get into the race finishing fifth. Robinson, once if front, reeled off 31.0, 30.7, 31.8 and 31.9 quarters, which in a trotters race made it near impossible for the backmarkers to get into the race. Runner-up Joekenn did a tremendous job to finish second sprinting hard down the back straight to get within striking distance of the winner, but the effort of getting so close, left him without the dash to finish off the job. “Once I found the front I had to keep her rolling,” Robinson said. “There was no point giving the backmarkers a chance to get into the race. “She is an improving filly and getting tougher with racing. She is really well bred being by Eilean Donon so has a future as a broodmare and I’m hoping she can continue to improve with age.” Robinson said stablemate Im Princess Sophie, which had to be scratched from the race after incurring a minor injury, was also a trotter of potential. “She is a four-year-old but I believe is also on the way through her classes.”
