Court and Schumann SA Open Champions

Joshua Court and Damien Schumann have deafeted number one seeds Issac Kapa and Chris McHugh to win the Men's SA Open in straight sets 21-16, 24,22. With a large crowd in attendance the local pair Kapa and McHugh rallied in the second set but Schumann and Court were in great form and were too strong. McHugh was aiming for a record sixth SA Open win, a number of players have won five SA Opens along with 2015 winner Bo Soderberg. Schumann and Court produced an amazing performance in the Final under extreme 36 degree heat as they will now look to put their name up for World Tour selection. "We are definitely looking to play all the events this summer and put our name up for selection in Asian and World tour events in 2016," Court said. "Its been a pretty busy summer for me, I did a lot of travelling last summer and spent a bit of time back in WA, you wont be seeing me on The Bachelor in 2016, I was approached but wont be on it. "We head up to Queensland in a week then move to the WA event before travelling to Victoria for another Australian Beach Volleyball tour event, then finally go to New South Wales for the National Tour Finals." Schumann was rapt with the win knowing Glenelg beach was a significant location as this was the place he first touched a volleyball. "This is where I first touched a volleyball along this beach but it was the other side of the jetty and I was small," Schumann said. "I always loved playing here, I'd like to thank Glenelg council and Volleyball SA and Volleyball Australia for putting on this great event, thanks to all our awesome sponsors too." Five time champion Bo Soderberg finished in third place as he paired with Cole Durant as they won their Bronze Medal match 21-18,21-15 over Joshua Slack and Casey Grice.
