Lucky 6 makes her move

Korean superstar Jeongeun Lee6 has put herself within striking distance of the lead at the Women's Australian Open after a five-under 67 on day three.

Lee - nicknamed Lucky6 - scored six birdies and one bogey to be within four strokes of leader Nelly Korda.

Earlier Lee started the day slowly with an unlucky ball lie in the rough on her first shot for the day yet managed to make par.

The 22-year-old made her first birdie for the day on the sixth hole. Her momentum continued over the next six holes as she scored a further four birdies before she added one more on the 16th.

Lee and Haru Nomura are the only two players to have scored three or less bogeys over the 54 holes.

The Korean could have well scored lower if the putts were more kind to her. On hole two, Lee's birdie chance rimmed the hole, then again on hole seven the ball did the same trick. On hole 15 she missed birdie by the smallest of margins - if these three fell she could have been 11-under. Despite this Lee felt she had a solid day with the putter and her posture over the ball.

"In the first and second rounds, I was not happy with my putter, but today I made putts really well," Lee said.

"So those scores got better today. So, the thing is that the putter made the good scoring for today.

"I thought while putting (that) my head was moving a little, so I tried to stay still yesterday, and the greens were fast, so I was trying to control the speed as much as I can. And then I’ve just been practising with keeping my head down as much as I can.

Going into the day Lee set herself a goal of reaching the top five on the leaderboard, she will go into the final day in a tie-for-third and hopes the crowd can get behind her during the last 18 holes and chant 'Go six'.

"There were Korean fans in the crowd, so I felt a little support and much support (from others), too," she said.

"It makes me more energetic."
