Aussies start well in Hawaii

Australia’s Golf stars Hannah Green and Minjee Lee lead the way for their country after round one of the Lotte Championship at Ko Olina Golf Club in Hawaii. While Australian Open champion Nelly Korda shot a nine-under 63 to take the overall lead going into day two. West Australian Green, played a superb round scoring five birdies and one eagle in her round of 66 - six-under par. Green said she was happy with her day and made the most of the slight breeze in the morning. "I think I just tried to stay more patient, which is always hard to say, but to do it is definitely different," Green said. "I remember last year I felt like the wind was a lot stronger in the morning round compared to what we had today. The early group had to contend with a few light showers during their round until the sun eventually stating shining again. "It was a little bit frustrating with the rain on and off, but, I mean, it wasn't too hard so it was fine to deal with. I think it's just nice to come back to a course you've played before whether you had a good or bad result. I think that is what I struggled with the most last year being a rookie was staying in a new hotel, playing a new course, and just playing a lot golf to see if I can get myself ready for the tournament week. "Very happy with a 6-under, but I can definitely see the scores are a little bit low because of the wind. But, yeah, you have to hit the ball good and you have to putt. "It's not exactly easy, but it is nice to have a low round this morning." Australia's number one player and world ranked number four Minjee Lee had a bogey free round of 67. She gave herself many birdie opportunities taking advantage of the conditions during the morning session. "I think I just didn't put myself in too much trouble," Lee said. "I mean, it wasn't that windy out there today. I could be pretty aggressive. I had a lot of wedges and I guess pitching wedges into the greens. So, yeah, there was a lot of the opportunities for birdie. "The rough isn't that thick, I think I drove a lot in the rough today, but you could still sort of get close to the pins and be pretty aggressive. "I just think when I was in trouble I was able to get up and down, so they were my par saves.” LPGA LOTTE Championship #lottechampionsip #hawaiigolf LPGA Ko Olina Golf Club 롯데 (LOTTE) LPGA LOTTE Championship #lottechampionsip #hawaiigolf LPGA Ko Olina Golf Club 롯데 (LOTTE)
